Bigger Kids Photo shoot | collegeville child photographer

Apparently, I am not immune to the charm of baby chicks, as evidenced by the fact that we almost found ourselves in the chicken raising business after our recent Chick Mini Sessions! Good thing these little guys had happy homes waiting for them, or we might just have a chicken coup out back 🙂

While I fully expected our young clients to find the baby chicks fascinating and I so looked forward to photographing the “awe and wonder” on their faces as they interacted with the adorable little fuzz balls, I was a little surprised at the reaction my kids had. I guess I thought for older age groups the baby chicks would lose their “wow factor”.

I had my kids come into the studio with me to meet the chicks and do some test shots. I wanted to check out how the chicks were to handle and hopefully dispel the lurking fear I had that the chicks would simply run away, all in different directions.

I think it was the laughter that I found most surprising! They giggled, they belly laughed, they laughed “at” each other and they laughed “with” each other…especially when the chicks burrowed into their hair or climbed on their heads. Such a delightful time…it was just too funny.

And a nice bonus…I’ve never had such eager helpers. Having the extra hands in the studio was nice…having something to entice my 10 year old and 15 year old to want to “hang out with mom in the studio”…priceless 🙂 .

We all were very sad as we returned our sweet baby chicks. I miss those little guys…*sniff*.
